East Beds Charity Cricket Shield Donation

Ron McMurdie and Andy Cowley of our SERV Herts and Beds group, were privileged to be able to accept another significant donation from the East Beds Charity Cricket Shield; an organisation that runs cricket and golf competitions as means of collecting funds for charities.

The Shield dates back to 1921 when it started as a weekend Cricket League. After World War 2, some of the local cricketers decided that the Shield should be put to beneficial use by running evening events comprising a Heritage Cup, Senior Shield, Junior and Under 18 competitions. This year they had selected several local charities to whom they awarded donations and we are very fortunate to be one of those charities.

Mr Charles Whitbread, Patron,  the Rt Hon Alistair Burt the President attended the event together with the EBCCS Chair, Martin Darlow and their Secretary, Ian Smith. This year the presentations were awarded by Steve Jennings, President of the Bedfordshire County Bowls Association, who also made a significant contribution to those EBCCS donations.

SERV would like to publicly thank all in the East Beds Charity Cricket Shield members and officials for their wonderful generosity and confirm that their contributions will be going to a good cause in that our own group of volunteers can continue to help the NHS by delivering blood to Hospitals in Beds and Herts, Human Milk via the Hearts Milk Bank as well as supporting hospices delivering patient samples for testing, medical equipment, prescriptions medicines etc.

Many thanks to all involved.

On behalf of the SERV Herts and Beds team - we are most grateful
